Dow DRIPs - 10 thru 12 of 12 DSPPs

The last three stocks in the Dow which offer Direct Stock Purchase Plans are Proctor & Gamble, Wal-Mart and Walt Disney.

10) Proctor & Gamble (PG) - Prospectus -
This is one powerhouse of a company! P&G markets over 300 branded products in more than 160 countries. It’s one year sales are a staggering 68 billion (which even tops Pfizer’s 47 billion in sales/year). Their Direct Purchase Plan requires an initial purchase amount of $250 and a one time setup fee of either $7.50 or $5.00 (website says $7.50, prospectus says $5.00) but, I’ve emailed to company to learn which is correct. (Something tells me it’s the $7.50 amount but, it might be hard to override what the prospectus says)
Automatic investments are only a dollar and, at around $60+/share you won’t have to worry too much about the additional $0.02/share commission adding too much to your purchase if you’re investing at the $50/month level.

INITIAL SETUP
Initial Purchase $250
One Time Set-up Fee $7.50 (however the Prospectus says $5.00)

PURCHASE LIMITS
Min $50.00
Max $120,000 per year

TRANSACTION FEES
Vai optional Investments by check $2.50 + $0.02/share
Via automatic ongoing monthly investments $1.00 + $0.02/share
Dividend Reinvestments 5% up to $1.25 however, the fee is waived if participants elect to receive electronic delivery of their account statements.

SALES
Sale of Stock $10.00 + $0.02/share

11) Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (WMT) - EquiServe.com - Current Price - Current Opinion
Well, since I started mentioning yearly sales figures I might as well point out that Wal-Mart does around 331 billion dollars in sales …absolutely amazing!
Wal-Mart is unique in the way they treat optional cash purchases of their stock via their DRIP program as the following chart would indicate.

Amount of Optional
Cash Purchase
Co. PaysParticipant Pays
$50-$100$4$1.00 + $0.10/share
$101-$150$3$2.00 + $0.10/share
$151-$200$2$3.00 + $0.10/share
$201-$250$1$4.00 + $0.10/share
$251 or more$0$5.00 + $0.10/share

It seems the less money you’re investing; the more they’re willing to help you cover the cost. I also like the way you can get into their program for only $25/month. After 10 months of $25 automatic purchases then you’ll be at the $50 min for any additional purchases. WMT’s initial setup and sales fee are the highest I’ve come across in any of the DSPPs I’ve encountered thus far but at $20 the fees are still well within reach of most any investor.

INITIAL SETUP
Initial Purchase $250
OR
Automatic Investments of $25/month for 10 consecutive months
One Time Set-up Fee $20.00 + $0.10/share

PURCHASE LIMITS
Min $50.00
Max $150,000 per year

TRANSACTION FEES
Vai optional Investments by check $5.00 + $0.10/share (max. charge)
Via automatic ongoing monthly investments $1.00 + $0.10/share
Dividend Reinvestments $0.00

SALES
Sale of Stock $20.00 + $0.10/share

12) Walt Disney Co. (DIS) - The Walt Disney Investment Plan - Current Price -
Current Opinion - Prospectus - New Account Form
Jeez – I might be tempted to purchase Disney stock just because the websites are so much fun! I’m not sure what to say other than there is nothing else quite like Disney.
Initial purchase for DIS is a stout $1,000.00 but can be had a bit more easily with automatic monthly deductions of $100 for 10 consecutive months. Here is another company where owning stock before going into their DRIP program would be cheaper than the $1,000 requirement of the DIS Direct Purchase option. The minimum number of shares you must own to get into their DRIP is 10 so, at a current price of around $29/share you could obtain 10 shares (in your name) at DirectInvesting.com for $361.21 as of this writing.

INITIAL SETUP
Initial Purchase $1000
OR
Automatic Investments of $100/month for 10 consecutive months
One Time Set-up Fee $10.00

PURCHASE LIMITS
Min $50.00
Max $150,000 per year

TRANSACTION FEES
Via optional Investments by check $5.00 + $0.01/share
Via automatic ongoing monthly investments $1.00 + $0.01/share
Dividend Reinvestments $0.00
Termination $10.00
SALES
Sale of Stock $10.00 + $0.10/share

Now that we've taken our first look at the 12 companies from Dow Jones Industrial Average which offer Direct Stock Purchase Plans we’ll need to summarize the information in a table which I’ll do in my next post.
